OK, you have a new baby or you’re expecting one soon. You’ve been pouring over What to Expect When You’re Expecting trying to prepare for everything. When your baby arrives, you’ll be walking around in a sleep-deprived daze of bottles and dirty diapers. But, if you blink, these early days in your baby’s life will be over before you know it. What have you done to document one of the happiest times of your life?
Most professional photographers tend to be booked four to six weeks in advance, so plan early and schedule this long before your little angel arrives. All newborns are best photographed within the first two weeks of their life; they will sleep through practically anything, which makes for incredible sleepy newborn poses.
Before you get to your session, prepare to be there for a while. Between feedings, diaper changes and getting your baby to sleep, this session can last anywhere from one to three hours.
And lastly, expect a mess. After all, your little one has been naked for a couple of hours, it’s bound to happen. All professional child photographers expect this and are well prepared. Bring a change of clothes for yourself and dad; you may need it before you head home.
So there you have it. You will be well prepared for your baby’s first photo shoot by following these simple guidelines. If only the rest of your little one’s adventures were this easy!
